People who need life-saving medical treatment which is unavailable in their region, often request assistance from Lions in countries where treatment is available.  International Relations chairpersons receive these requests and often arrange for treatment.

Lions clubs have willingly assisted with transportation, housing accommodations for relatives and payment of surgeons' fees. Lions are not obligated to provide such assistance but are encouraged to do so when able.

It is highly recommended that before Lions volunteer to assist with a medical request, they address all matters including assessing hospital and doctor's fees. An understanding of the total picture must precede any commitment for assistance.

Some medical facilities maintain working relationships with Lions clubs. These facilities offer reduced costs or courtesy care for patients from anywhere in the world. The only requirement is that a Lions club or district refers the patient. Information on such facilities should be provided to the Program Development Department at international headquarters.

In all cases, however, transportation costs to and from these facilities remain the responsibility of the patient or sponsoring club or district.
