Photo of the Week: Lions Work to Save the Chesapeake Bay

In honor of the upcoming Earth Day, we’re recognizing Lions clubs that make a difference in their community as well as the environment.  We found this week’s  photo in the Gazette.com

In this photo, city watershed manager Tiffany Wright helps out at a rain barrel workshop put on by the Bowie Lions Club. The Lions build rain barrels and sell them as a fundraiser. Rain barrels collect water as it falls off the roof, which prevents water from carrying topsoil, motor oil and pesticides into rivers, streams and the Chesapeake Bay. Residents can then use the water to irrigate plants before it contains any pollutants.
