Story of the Week: Lion Begins “Bike Ride Across America” to Help Haiti
Lions Hope for Haiti has mobilized nearly US$5 million to provide relief and hope for the people of Haiti. Donations continue to come in from clubs and members around the world. And, one of the most ambitious fund-raising efforts we’ve heard about involves Jay DeFuria, a member of the Gardner Lions Club.
Jay left Gardner, Massachusetts June 2, 2010, on a 72-day “Bike Ride Across America” that will end in California. During his journey, Jay hopes to raise $30,000 to help build a medical clinic in Haiti.
Jay will to travel 70 to 80 miles a day, and raise donations through the Gardner Lions Club’s Haiti Fund. Lions clubs across the country will also help by providing food and shelter during Jay’s journey.
