President’s Service Blog

What an honor it was to attend our convention in Sydney this month – and to begin my year as your president. I am truly humbled to lead an organization that has provided hope to those in need for nearly 100 years. And, I’m looking forward to working with Lions around the world as we dedicate ourselves to service in the coming year.

Since service is the focal point of my presidential theme, A Beacon of Hope, I’m asking Lions to do a signature or significant service project during my official visits this year. I’ll also be posting first-hand accounts of projects to this blog to share my experiences with you.

Before Judy and I begin our travels to Lions clubs around the world, I wanted to share a short video from my first official visit as international president. Last weekend, Judy and I attended the opening ceremony of the 2010 Special Olympics USA National Games in Lincoln, Nebraska. During the event, we enjoyed showing our support for these truly inspiring athletes as part of a large Lions delegation from North Carolina.

It’s my privilege to represent you during the next 12 months, and to pilot the world’s global leader in community service.  Serving together, I know that our light will shine brighter than ever.

    My father (Jack W. Clasen was a past president of the Lions “midway” club in Los Angeles, Calif. Jack passed away this month at 95. His club closed some years ago or merged? All of the members we knew have also passed.

    My question to anyone is, he was honored with the Wilbur Dunn Achievement Award in 1955 . I cannot find it on your Lion web pages? Maybe Wilbur was the founding member of Midway LSA Lions?

    Please help me out on this.

      Unfortunately, the Wilbur Dunn Achievement Award was not awarded by international headquarters, so we do not have any information; however, it may have been a local or state award, so the local multiple district may be able to provide more information: http://www.md4lions.org/office.html

    Sialkot Eden Lions Club – Pakistan Flood Victims Looking Forward to Lions Of Pakistan

    Pakistan: Call To Pray and Help Flood Affected Across the Country … Thousands dead and 2.5 million homeless.

    Massive rains and subsequent flooding in Pakistan has claimed the lives of thousands of people and left 2.5 millions homeless across the country.

    Thousands of villages have been submerged into rivers and millions of houses, roads, bridges, as well as standing crops and livestock, have been swept away.

    It is “the worst disaster in the history of Pakistan and bigger than the 2005 earthquake.”

    However, millions are still trapped and an acute shortage of drinking water and food has been reported. Diseases have broken out in the affected areas, and desperate people are waiting for help under the open sky.

    To make matters worse, more rains and flooding has been forecast.

    Requests have been made to international friends and organizations to support this urgent relief work.

    People have been donating food and clothes, but now the flooding is so massive, that we need the kind support of international community.
