Story of the Week: Music Competition Winner Featured in Article

Brian Allen, 16, took the title this summer in Sydney at the first Global Youth Music Competition with his stunning violin performances. Allen bested finalists from Australia, Canada, China, Ecuador, England, Korea, Taiwan and Tunisia for the US$10,000 prize.

Now, the teenager shared his plans for the future as well as his prize money with Indiana University, where he plays violin with the elite Violin Virtuosi group. Allen said the competition was a great experience and “gives me courage to face new challenges. It boosts my confidence and encourages me to win more.”

The 2011 Global Youth Music Competition will take place in Seattle, Wash., and feature the classical guitar. A repertoire list and guideline for participation is available online. Tickets for the exclusive final performance will be available for a US$20 donation to LCIF and can be purchased at the time of registration.
