Story of the Week: Young People’s Peace Posters Capture the Spirit of the Season

This holiday season, as we wish for peace and joy for our families and friends, submissions for the Lions International Peace Poster Contest are coming into our headquarters by the cartful. These works, submitted by 11-, 12- and 13-year-old boys and girls from around the world, show their interpretation of the theme “Vision of Peace” and how they imagine a world free from conflict.

In Pennsylvania, art teacher Amy Barnhart takes the contest one step farther by integrating it into her curriculum. When we visited her classroom at Mount Nittany Middle School, we saw how she uses the contest as a springboard to discuss peace with her students. We were impressed by their posters and by the dialogue they started with the kids.

In this video, we see students working on their posters and explaining their thought process.
