During the holiday season, many of our clubs took part in the “Relieving the Hunger” campaign. We found this photo in our group on Flickr.

Longview Pioneer Lions “Walk and Knock” Project

Last month, the Longview Pioneer Lions Club collected nearly five tons of food during its annual “Walk and Knock” food drive. This photo shows club members going door to door to collect donations for the Lower Columbia Community Action Program.

    Pleasant surprise to see our club featured in the LCI Photo of the week, though maybe I should apologize for my ugly mug (LOL!). I’m on the left and good friend, and not really “grumpy”, past president John Claypool is on the right. Proud to be a member of the Longview Pioneer Lions and to have served in the Cowlitz County Walk-N-Knock hierarchy.

    Past International Director Bud Pasmore of Vancouver (WA) took a food drive concept (originated by the Longview Pioneer Lions) and developed it into the broad based multi-organizational effort that it is today. Thanks to Bud’s vision and willingness to reach out to other service groups, tens of thousands of those less fortunate throughout the region have food to eat. Truly, a “Beacon of Hope” in so many ways. And a wonderful legacy for PID Bud! May you rest in peace!

    By the way, this is a very simple concept that could be used in other areas. Please steal the idea!

    Kudos to the Longview Pioneer Lions — and all the other Lions Clubs, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Campfire, Kiwanis, Rotary, local church groups, high school clubs, and social clubs — for their help in the 26th annual MULTI-SERVICE Walk N Knock Food Drive. (www.walkandknock.org). Final Count for 2010: Clark County’s biggest food drive was even bigger this year, collecting 331,340 pounds — almost 166 tons — during the Dec. 4 event. The food is valued at an estimated $530,144. This club, and everyone else’s, continued dedication to a project started by the Vancouver Lions Club is admirable.
