Lions Clubs in Africa Leading the Way to a Better Life for Millions
As the world’s largest volunteer service organization, we have members in more than 200 countries – including 42 African nations where membership is growing. From Morocco to South Africa, Lions are leading the way to a better life for millions of people.
In Africa, Lions are helping solve problems of poverty and illiteracy. In South Africa, Lions operate feeding projects that have helped thousands of people. In Mali, Lions drill wells that give entire villages access to clean water. And across Africa, Lions are building new schools, teaching life skills through Lions Quest, and providing vocational training for single mothers.
Lions in Africa also work on health projects to prevent blindness. Improve access to specialized care for people with diabetes and AIDs. And provide free dental care in rural Morocco. Our members are also taking part in the Lions-Measles Initiative to help vaccinate 41 million children in Africa against measles. “Measles can cause blindness, it can kill children,” said Hamed Lawal, a Lion in Nigeria. “If we can prevent measles, it will be a wonderful thing.”
