Story of the Week: South Tucson Lions Strum Up a Good Time for Youth

Assisting and nurturing young people is one of the many projects we undertake as Lions. In Arizona, Lions are helping preserve the cultural experience of mariachi music in the next generation.

Now in its second year, the Charity Student Mariachi Fiesta features young talent from throughout Tucson. This year’s showcase featured 10 groups of youngsters ages 8 to 17 singing, dancing and playing traditional mariachi music.

South Tucson Lions Club President Ed Trejo said his club is pleased to sponsor one of the few venues that allows young musicians to showcase their talents. All proceeds from the event support Lions charities, such as holiday shopping trips for children in need and scholarships.

In this video, you can take a look at some of the incredible talent displayed at the mariachi festival.
