President’s Service Blog: Sulur Vocational Training Centre, India

Judy and I traveled to India recently and visited an extraordinary facility offering training and job placement assistance. At the Sulur Lions Vocational Training Centre, more than 700 people per year learn computer skills, tailoring, jewelry making, cosmetology and handbag construction. This project is supported by the Lions of India’s District 324-B1 and with a grant from the Lions Clubs International Foundation.

We had the opportunity to watch a bookbinding class as well as textile print training and to see sewing machines donated to the school. Judy received a handbag made by one of the students there. Centre students receive four months of instruction, and then spend two months working at apprenticeships, all at no cost to the participants.sulur vocational center
