Photo of the Week: Lions in the Philippines and Korea “Protecting Our Environment”

During this month’s “Protecting Our Environment” campaign, we’re showcasing photos of green projects from Lions around the world. We received this week’s photo via our Submit a Photo page.

Tree Planting Project by Lions clubs in the Philippines and Korea

In this photo, Lions from District 301-D1 in the Philippines and 356-B in Korea take part in a tree planting project in Norzagaray (Bulacan), Philippines. The Lions planted 1,000 mahogany tree seedlings during this joint project, which benefitted more than 300 indigenous families.

If your club has worked on a  project to protect our environment during April, please leave a comment below to let us know.

  2. Here in Bicol, in the province of Camarines Norte, we as a youth member of Leo Club, requested to have some activities and projects to do, just as what Lions do! We need support from our dearest Lions Official!

    • It’s great to hear that your Leo club is interested in participating in the Protecting our Environment Campaign! For ideas about environmental projects, check out the Global Service Action Campaign section of our website at:

      • Dear Lions,

I and my co-members in Leo club District 301-A2, here in Bicol, Philippines would like to inform you that our organization here, have systems in doing activities and programs! May you take some actions to resolve it!

        Very truly yours, Leos

  3. In Korea (South), they have an official tree plantation day in April, when spring starts. It is a national holiday here for all school children, and all go to mountain and plant trees. During North/South war, many plants/trees were lost. To recover, government made a holiday and all participate. Now, Korea is so green. I live here, I was a Lion member in India, but not now.

  4. We, in India, usually plant saplings during our rainy season (e.g., July to September) every year. This season our Hyderabad Sanatnagar Lions Club planted more than 1,000 sapplings and our District 324C6 planted more than 10,000 saplings. Hats off to our President Lion Peri Venkata Ramana, Region Chairman Lion V. Sudhakar mjf, and especially our District Governor Lion Dr. G. Babu Rao pmjf.

      • Most of our clubs have worked on exemplary projects to protect our environment during April, e.g., during Regional Conferences in our District 324C6. One of them is “AVOID PLASTIC CARRY BAGS.” During their campaign, the Lion members distributed “PAPER BAGS” and “REUSABLE CLOTH BAGS” to all. Again hats off to our District Governor Lion Dr. G. Babu Rao pmjf, for his encouragement not only throughout the year, but for the last six years. Such activities are innovative and should be encouraged and publicized among all the clubs of our International Association. I hope the LCI will take initiative. Thanks to LCI.

        • Thanks to your District for all of these projects to protect our environment … and to you for letting us know about them!

  5. It is really fantastic work “Protecting Our Environment.” We can save our earth through this activity. In our club we also doing same work … lots of our area Lions contribute in these types of activities. We are from Thar Desert and tree plantation is easy work. But after plantation, protection of these trees is very difficult in low water area. But right now, we achieve our target to protect them. In our area, manpower for social service is no problem. The big thing is to manage the water for these trees. If fund arranging for this, then we can achieve our target to protect our trees. We’ll send you our photos which show our love for our Environment. Pankaj

  6. Do you think that we have worked for fantastic “Protecting our Environment” in Energy Saving by candlelight and sunlight only? 🙂 In May, we also will plant our tree: an old olive, in the side of a road traffic, along our wonderful seaside. It’ll be a great symbol of solidity, longevity and peace and also a warning of prudence for all the drivers. We’ll send you our photos: it will be another sign of love for our Environment. We thank Nature for her benevolence in our sunny, light Sicily and thank you also, for giving the opportunity to attest this love by your great Lions Campaign. Natalia

    • So many wonderful “protecting our environment” projects by your club! Thanks for letting us know about them. 🙂
