Photo of the Week: Lions in Turkey Plant Trees, Start Forest to Protect Environment

During the recent “Protecting our Environment” Global Service Action Campaign, our members donated nearly 100,000 hours of service to more than 1,000 environmental projects. We received a photo of one of these projects from Zeynep Kocasinan of the Fethiye Lions Club in Fethiye, Turkey.

This photo shows club members at work during a tree planting on April 17, 2011. MD 118-R officials – including District Governor Nasuhi Ondersev – joined the Lions for the tree planting, which took place during the grand opening of the Fethiye Lions Club Forest.

    Thank you very much for giving Fethiye Lions Club a chance to share about our tree planting and the openning of Fethiye Lions Club Forest. Many Lions Clubs in Turkey planted thousands of trees in Turkey this year under the “Protecting our Environment” Global Service Action Campaign.
    We hope that the same enthusiam will continue in the coming months and years. Due to the warm weather condition in the town of Fethiye, which is in the Southwestern part of Turkey, we will need to wait until October 2011 to continue with our tree planting, which we are already planning.
