President’s Service Blog: Meeting an Essay Contest Finalist, Indiana
As part of my theme this year, I called upon clubs to support an essay contest, which allowed visually impaired children ages 11, 12 and 13 throughout the world to express what peace means to them. I was truly overwhelmed by the quality of responses we received. The Power of Peace theme elicited amazing essays from visually impaired children throughout the world. When I was in Indiana, I had the opportunity to meet with one of the children who submitted an essay. Mikaela Smith from District 25-A, in Chesterton, Indiana, shared her moving essay in a ceremony. Afterward I had the honor of bestowing an award for her participation.
