Lions Clubs Story of the Week: Recovery Begins in Japan
In Japan, our fellow Lions still need our assistance. Lions Clubs International staff members who traveled to Ishinomaki, an area razed by the disaster two months ago, took several photos of the damage. This image of cars tossed onto buildings nearly two miles inland only depicts part of the story; the smell of industrial waste, rotting organic matter and standing water is overwhelming. But clean up and recovery have begun.
Many Lions clubs are reeling from the loss of their club members, but they know that helping hands will be needed for months to come. A preliminary meeting with the local Red Cross allowed Lions to assess the medium- and long-term needs of their neighbors and provided a framework for Lions’ service.
