Story of the Week: Bloomingdale Lions Host a Walk-A-Dog-A-Thon

How we help our communities varies from club to club, but Lions all strive to bring people together to serve. In Bloomingdale, Illinois, Lions partner with other community groups on an annual Walk-A-Dog-A-Thon, which benefits the Lions Project for Canine Companions for Independence.

This Lions project provides assistance dogs to people who use wheelchairs, including the visually impaired and wounded veterans. The Walk-A-Dog-A-Thon brings together volunteers from Lions, the Westfield Middle School Leo Club, the VFW and the Cub Scout pack, which the Lions sponsor. There’s something for every member of the family, from bandanas for the canines to raffles and a guide dog demonstration for the humans. In this video, you’ll see part of the walk and a guide dog showing off its tricks.
