President’s Service Blog: Collecting Funds for Japan, New York
As long as communities have unmet needs, there will be Lions clubs ready to serve. When Judy and I were in New York shortly after the disaster in Japan, we ran into a group of Lions raising funds.
The New York Japanese-American Lions Club was at Grand Central Station collecting money to send to the Lions Clubs International Foundation. So far, this club has sent $150,000 to the Lions Clubs International Foundation and it continues to raise money through a variety of projects and events to address the ongoing needs of the people of Japan.
The New York Japanese-American Lions Club proves that small donations and actions pooled together have the power to change lives. With efforts like this by Lions around the world, LCIF has mobilized US$15 million so far to help Japan. It’s through work like this that our members serve as beacons of hope.
