Story of the Week: Lions in Indiana Clean Up Their Community for Earth Day

This spring, Lions clubs worldwide participated in the Protecting Our Environment Global Service Action Campaign, an effort to unite our clubs in a common goal. Some clubs adopted a park beautification or started projects to preserve water quality. In Indiana, the St. John Lions Club cleaned up a bike path.

Boy Scout Pack 550 chipped in to help the Lions collect 17 bags of garbage in two hours. The club has signed the scouts’ charter each year since the pack formed and the two organizations work together on a variety of projects. Together, the 19 volunteers also removed an old tire, a rusted barbecue grill and a six-foot length of PVC pipe from the quarter-mile path.Bike_Trail_Cleanup-1
