Story of the Week: Lions, LCIF Support Nursing School in Haiti

Lions and LCIF continue to help the people of Haiti rebuild their lives. This week, the newly constructed National Nurse’s School of Port au Prince opened its doors to help meet the increasing demand for medical professionals. LCIF provided nearly US$370,000 or 27 percent of the cost for the building and equipment.

Even before the catastrophic quake struck in early 2010, razing the school and killing 100 students and teachers, Haiti faced a shortage of healthcare professionals. The school, which will help meet this shortage, was built quickly using prefabricated containers that are durable, storm and earthquake resistant.

Lions and LCIF are providing an array of relief services in Haiti, including resources like tents and provisional homes. In this video, you’ll see Past International President Eberhard Wirfs tour one of these homes and meet with residents to assess their ongoing needs.
