Story of the Week: Lions Club from Chicago Helps Provide Clean Water in Mali

There are so many ways that helping hands are useful both in our communities and around the world. The Chicago Windy City Lions Club recently funded a well in Dissan to provide clean water for the residents. Through an LCIF grant and in partnership with the Sokala Lions Club in Bamako, Mali, the clubs improved countless lives with dependable clean water.

Before, villagers in this remote area of West Africa bathed, cooked and fed their animals with murky, dirty water collected using giant metal tubs. Windy City Lions Club member Dan Morris captured the week-long process of drilling the well on video.

The Lions waited anxiously to see if water would be found. In 110-degree heat, a crew drilled for hours before striking water. According to the villagers, who were overwhelmed by this gift from Lions, “Without water, there can be no life!”

Life is ever changing and it looks to me that dynamism is the key word of the present day human society .Our society is on a ‘fast track’ and Lions will certainly keep pace with it and help it grow healthy. I personally think that we, the Lionsneed to mold/ motivate the younger generation to subscribe /contribute to the healthy growth /evolution of the human society, acting as the ‘watch dogs’ to this process of healthy cultural evolution. We need to push ahead. We need to grow and allow healthy growth. Let Lions prove to this world that they are the torch bearers for the proper growth of human society , with the ultimate goal of happy sojourn to every soul on Earth.

Kindly identify prospective members, motivate and orient them to organize a new club of like minded friends with the common goal of help humanity. Remember that we are not the members of Lions Clubs International. Our clubs only are the members of our organization . We are the members of our clubs helping them to deliver goods for the greater glory of mankind on earth. Hence extension of clubs is important to strengthen our organization.
