Lions in Morocco Help Children in Need Build a Brighter Future, One Smile at a Time

Around the world, many of our clubs focus on projects that meet the needs of youth. We sent a video crew to Morocco to see how Lions there are filling a need by providing much needed dental care to local kids.

Marrakech is a vibrant city, yet many residents live in poverty. The Atlas Lions Club found out that many poor and orphaned children there did not have access to health care. Dentists and educators who belong to the club decided to use their expertise to address this problem.

Lions are teaching oral hygiene by giving each child a free toothbrush and helping them learn to care for their teeth. Lions also operate a small dental clinic that serves a local orphanage and area children in need. In addition, Lions partnered with the government to establish a mobile dental unit that travels to public schools in the rural areas near Marrakech.

Malika, the mother of a child treated by the dental unit, told our video crew, “If there was no Lions club here, I wouldn’t be able to give dental care to my children. I thank the Lions club very much.”
