Story of the Week: Lions in England Sponsor Games for Athletes of All Abilities

Making sure every athlete has the opportunity to shine is a goal of many of our clubs. The number of our Champions Lions Clubs in support of the Special Olympics is growing, and our LCIF Opening Eyes partnership with the Special Olympics has provided vision screenings for more than 250,000 athletes.

In England, the Chippenham Lions Club organizes a day of competition and camaraderie each year. The Bob Cook Games, named for the club’s charter president, bring together almost 300 athletes for track and field events. Lions throughout District 105W and surrounding areas support the event, which includes serving lunch for more than 450 people.

The Lions there say it’s an honor to present the athletes with their medals. They know that for some, it was an incredible display of strength and determination to make it to the start line.
