Photo of the Week: Lions in Massachusetts Keep Kids Cozy with a Coat Drive

With cold weather imminent in many of the 206 countries that our clubs call home, Lions are preparing their communities for the cooler temperatures ahead. We found this photo from the Charlestown Lions Club at

The club is hosting its annual coat drive for infants, children and adults. After cleaning the coats, the club will provide them to community agencies for distribution to those in need this winter.

  1. Glad to hear that Massachusetts is doing this. Our La Grande Lions Club has been doing “Coats for Kids” for many years. We put collection boxes in the schools, banks and other venues where people can drop coats that their children will no longer fit in. On the last weekend of October and the first weekend of November we give out the coats on a first come first serve basis. The first weekend we have invited families who are very low income. Sometimes with snow on the ground children come with no coats, no shoes, hats or gloves. The Soroptimist club during the same two weekends give out hats, gloves and boots. It works very well and sure feels good when needy people get a warm coat for winter.

    • Hi Lion Carol,
It’s great to hear how your club has partnered with another group to provide a valuable service in your community. Congratulations on a job well-done!
