Photo of the Week: Lions in Texas Fill Tables for Thanksgiving

This time of year, many of our clubs provide food to those in need and participate in our Relieving the Hunger Global Service Action Campaign. We found this week’s photo of the Downtown Amarillo Lions Club at the Amarillo Globe-News.Donating turkeys

The club donated almost 300 turkeys to the High Plains Food Bank after a Lion read about a shortage. It cost the Downtown Amarillo Lions about $4,000 to help the food pantry meet the need in its community this holiday season.

  2. Our Alamogordo Breakfast Lions Club, buys Thanksgiving Meals for the Seniors who are on Meals on Wheels. We also deliver these meals on Thanksgiving Day, and deliver Meals on Wheels the day after Thanksgiving. It is so much fun to visit the seniors and the smiles on their faces is a great joy. We have been doing this for over 20 years.

    • Hi Lion Georgia,
Thank you for sharing your project. The holidays are a great time for us to live up to the “We Serve” motto. Great work!

  3. You guys are so lucky to have that kind of money to do this with! We are a small city out in West Texas (McCamey) but we were able to provide 4 baskets of food with the help of our school kids. Each class brought two cans of a particular item and the club bought four turkeys and hams. The left overs went to the local Salvation Army Food Bank. Wish we could have served more of the needy. The folks were very appreciative of the baskets! What a blessing for us, as well as the families. This is what it means to be a Lion!

    • Hi Lion Sherry,
What a great way to use what you have to improve your community! It’s great that you were able to partner with the school to teach young people the importance of helping others, too.
