High-Flying Lions Fundraiser in Texas Brings Together Community

Our clubs around the world organize a variety of fundraisers that gather their neighbors for a common cause, from preserving vision to raising awareness for diabetes. Our film crew was on hand in Texas where the Highland Village Lions Club raises money and spirits through its annual Balloon Festival and Fair. For more than 20 years, the club’s signature service project has funded its community service.
Hot air balloonists from around the country gather to display and fly their colorful crafts through the skies of the Lone Star State. Children and adults alike enjoy the spectacle, which includes a nighttime balloon glow along with morning and evening flights. A fair featuring local eats, crafts and carnival rides provides entertainment for the whole family.
Mike Sawyer, a member of the Highland Village Lions Club, said his favorite part of the exhausting weekend is how excited the spectators are seeing the balloons take flight.
