Story of the Week: Lions in Canada Host Kayaking Event to Support Dog Guides

Our clubs choose many causes to champion throughout the year. In Canada, the Gravenhurst Lions Club hosts fundraisers in support of the Dog Guides Program of Lions Foundation of Canada. The club started Paddle for a Cause and invited kayak and canoe enthusiasts and their furry friends to enjoy a day on the Muskoka Lake.

All proceeds benefit the Dog Guides Program, which has provided more than 1,200 assistance dogs to residents throughout Canada. Dogs are trained as helpers to people with visual and hearing impairments as well as physical disabilities, seizure disorders and autism. Through fundraisers such as Paddle for a Cause, the foundation can provide dogs at no cost to the recipients.

In this video, you’ll see Gravenhurst locals enjoying an afternoon together to help the dog guides program.
