Story of the Week: Girl from the Philippines Wins 2011-2012 Peace Poster Contest
Judges from the art, peace and youth education arenas selected Trisha Co Reyes as the winner of the 24th annual Lions Clubs International Peace Poster Contest. The 13-year-old girl from Manila, Philippines, took the top honor for her depiction of this year’s theme, “Children Know Peace.”

Judges selected her poster from the 126 posters from 60 countries that made it to the international level of judging after being narrowed down at local levels. Trisha, who was sponsored by the Manila Centennial Lions Club, will receive US$5,000 and a trip to a special awards ceremony at Lions Day with the United Nations in New York City.
This year’s 23 merit award winners hail from Brazil, China, Colombia, England, Guam, Iceland, India, Japan, Panama, Peru, Portugal, Romania, Republic of South Africa, Taiwan, Thailand and the United States (Arizona, Connecticut, Georgia, Kansas, Minnesota, New Hampshire and North Carolina). Merit award winners receive a certificate and US$500.
