Story of the Week: Lions, LCIF Immunize 10 Million Children Against Measles in Nepal
Lions clubs are building a better future for the children of the world. This is certainly the case with our One Shot, One Life: Lions Measles Initiative. Lions, Lions Clubs International Foundation and Measles Initiative partners immunized 41 million children in Africa. Now, we’ve moved our efforts to Nepal, where we’ve worked with our partners and mobilized to immunize 10 million kids against measles.
More than 150 Lions attended the launch ceremony this week. Lions went door-to-door to encourage mothers to bring their children to the clinics, and they coupled this outreach with an advertising campaign.
The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation challenged Lions to raise US$10 million for One Shot, One Life: Lions Measles Initiative, and the foundation will match US$1 for every $2 raised by Lions. With your help, Lions and LCIF will immunize 157 million this year against one of the world’s deadliest vaccine-preventable diseases. Together, for less than US$1 per child, we can stop this silent crisis that claims the lives of 450 children each day.
