Anniversary of Disaster in Japan: Lions Clubs Bring Hope, Reconstruction
In times of crisis, the fact that Lions clubs span the globe makes it easy to mobilize support. In Japan, Lions were on the scene immediately after a massive earthquake and tsunami rocked their country on March 11, 2011.
One year later, Lions from around the world have donated US$20 million, with US$11 million already disbursed to the Lions of Japan for recovery efforts. Lions, through the Lions Clubs International Foundation, continue to support rebuilding efforts, awarding grants to pay for assistance such as pressure washers to decontaminate buildings and a community center with coin-operated laundries.
