Story of the Week: Paint Your State Blue for the Lions Commemorative Coin Act
It seems that each week we color a new state blue on our Lions Clubs International Century of Service Commemorative Coin Act map as it reaches 100 percent support. With your help, we’ll fill in every state as we gain support for H.R. 2139, as it’s known in the House, and S. 1299 in the Senate.
Presently, 217 Representatives and 41 Senators co-sponsor this bill, which would authorize the U.S. Treasury to mint a commemorative silver dollar to celebrate our centennial in 2017. We’re more than halfway to the required 290 sponsors in the U.S. House of Representatives and 67 in the U.S. Senate. Without any cost to the taxpayer, the US$4 million raised through the sale of the coin would further the causes of the visually impaired, disabled and youth, as well as those affected by major disasters.
