LCIF and Bausch + Lomb Improve Lives Through Pediatric Cataract Initiative

Pediatric Cataract Initiative

Globally, countless individuals can trace their improved quality of life back to initiatives from Lions Clubs International. From those who have received recycled eyeglasses to villages with access to clean water, our clubs are making a global impact every day.

Our Pediatric Cataract Initiative is one of our many programs that change lives. Through a partnership between the Lions Clubs International Foundation and Bausch + Lomb, children like 10-year-old Ruma Roy have both better eye sight and a better life. For years, Ruma had pediatric cataract that impaired her vision, as well as her ability to learn in school. As a rickshaw driver earning less than US$2 per day, her father was unable to afford the treatment surgery. Because of PCI and its local grant of US$150,000 to a local facility Lions eye hospital grant, Ruma is one of 200 children who will receive treatment.

The grant will also provide education for the community, training for ophthalmologists and vision screenings for more than 130,000 children. With the support of partners like Bausch + Lomb and donations from Lions like you, children around the world have clearer vision and brighter futures.
