Reading and Literacy Summit

Today, Lions Clubs International Headquarters in Oak Brook, Illinois, USA is excited to host the 2013 Reading and Literacy Summit, and to welcome representatives from global organizations committed to advancing literacy and inclusive education worldwide.

Topics of discussion will range from the role of parents in early childhood reading to how today’s growing technologies, such as e-readers and mobile devices, can help improve reading and literacy.

Attendees, presenters and panelists include: Dr. Mmantsetsa Marope of UNESCO, who will speak about the role of civil society in improving education quality; Dr. Dipesh Navsaria, Medical Director at Reach Out and Read Wisconsin, to discuss the importance of early reading on childhood development; and Carl Augusto, President and CEO of the American Foundation for the Blind, who will address literacy needs and challenges for individuals with vision loss.
