Today Is International Women’s Day!
Lions Clubs International observes International Women’s Day, a time to call for the end of violence and trafficking against women and girls, and for the promotion of education, development and opportunity. We are also pleased to report the continuing growth of women at Lions, increasing to 33% of all new members this year, up from 31% last fiscal year. Now nearly 26% of all members overall, and growing.
Lions, take the opportunity to focus your service on women and young girls in your community this month:
- Organize a Reading Action Program activity that encourages mothers to read to their children.
- Volunteer at or help support a local women and children’s shelter by donating clothes, toys and books.
- Invite women to join your Lions club, and plan family-friendly service projects that encourages them to get their kids involved, too.
- For Family and Friends Month in April, consider screening “Girl Rising,” a groundbreaking film that tells the extraordinary stories of nine young girls around the world, and focuses on the power of education to change the world.
Make every day International Women’s Day! Think globally, act locally and make a difference.
