Lions Facebook Page Suspensions and Brand Protection

09.01.2025

Facebook is a powerful tool for Lions clubs to increase membership, communicate club updates and showcase service events. With the right strategy and strong, consistent content, Lions can harness this powerful tool to connect with new individuals and facilitate service events with larger reach and greater impact.

Unfortunately, Lions have seen a recent uptick in the suspension of clubs’ Facebook pages, with many being locked out of their accounts or having the pages entirely taken down. Many Lions have reported their pages suspended due to violating Facebook Community Standards for “impersonation.” Facebook’s AI algorithm flags these accounts and ultimately, suspends them. Learn more about why Facebook suspends pages.

Are you a Facebook page admin for your Lions club? Read on for recommendations if your page has been deleted, next steps and best practices for avoiding suspension.

What Facebook Recommends

If you disagree with Facebook's decision to remove your page, you can request a review of the page and Facebook will take another look at the decision.

You can do this by going to the Support Inbox, opening the message Facebook sent you about taking down the content and clicking "disagree with decision" if you see the option. Or, try going to your page and clicking “Appeal” at the top.

Once you’ve submitted your appeal, a Facebook (or Meta) Support ticket will be opened, and you will be contacted via email by a support agent.

Including as much information as possible will give your Facebook support agent a complete view of the purpose of the Facebook page and verify the page’s authenticity. Your agent may request that you create a new email, correctly identify certain members in photos, provide additional documents and complete other actions, which Lions should be ready to comply with.

If you see an option in your email ticket to start a live chat with a support agent, try it out. This will open a chat via Facebook Messenger with a support agent, and you may even be able to communicate with them by phone. Only open this option if you have the time to respond to messages immediately.

Tips To Improve Suspension Appeals

After submitting the necessary information to Facebook support agents, Lions are encouraged to maintain regular communication with Facebook. This means messaging your support agent every 3-5 days to check the status of your appeal and responding to every email from the support agent to confirm receipt. Because the platform receives a high volume of appeals, the onus is on Lions to ensure their account recovery cases are active. Facebook will often close tickets before they are resolved due to inactivity, forcing you to open a new ticket.

If you are still unable to recover your Facebook page, consider starting a new Facebook page. You may also want to branch out to other social media platforms, such as Instagram or LinkedIn, if you haven’t already. Find social media resources for Lions here.

Prevent Lions Club Facebook Page Suspension

To prevent future account suspension, Lions should:

  • Add multiple admins to the club page.
  • Ensure all page admins have active accounts that follow Facebook Community Standards.
  • Regularly engage with other accounts.
  • Moderate content to align with Facebook policies.
  • Subscribe to Meta verified for proactive account protection.

Lions Clubs Facebook Page Review

Lions can now request to protect their account’s use of Lions Clubs International branding with Meta Brand Rights Protection. This tool allows our official Facebook account to identify Lions clubs’ Facebook accounts using official branding and allow these accounts to use the content. Facebook page admins can request protection for their Lions club’s Facebook page by filling out this form.

Please note we cannot guarantee any suspended pages will be reinstated.
