LCIF Offers Support in the Wake of Cyclone Gaja

Cassandra Rotolo 2018 年 12 月 03 日

The state of Tamil Nadu in southern India was ravaged by Cyclone Gaja on November 16, 2018. More than 60 people have perished and hundreds of thousands are displaced.

Much of the farmland that feeds residents in the state has been destroyed and countless livestock have been killed. Electrical service is not fully restored, and drinking water is contaminated. As much as 80% of the region’s cherished coconut trees have been uprooted, which will have crippling effects on the local economy and national supply for years to come. The situation in the Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Thanjavur and Pudukottai districts of Tamil Nadu is dire.

In times of crisis, Lions are often among the first to offer critical supplies, such as food, water, temporary shelter and clothing. Lions Clubs International Foundation (LCIF) is right there beside them, ready to support their efforts. LCIF has awarded US$100,000 in designated disaster funding for the Lions of Multiple District 324 to begin their relief work. This work may be treacherous and daunting, but Lions continue to prove they are up for the challenge.
