We care about our planet. Forty percent of the global population is affected by water scarcity. Air pollution impacts 4.2 million people globally every year. The world loses 18.7 million acres of forests annually. To fight these issues, Lions Clubs International Foundation (LCIF) is supporting Lions and Leos in their endeavors to create positive environmental change.
Thanks to LCIF, the environment around the Mumbai train stations is healthier.
Leos in India Take Action
Looking around some of the train stations in Mumbai, India was disheartening. Piles of trash were scattered all over the grounds and left there to sit. Seeing this, Leos wanted to take part in cleaning up the station. LCIF awarded 12 Leo clubs within District 3231-A3 a US$2,500 Leo Service grant. With trash bags, gloves, and picks donated by the local transit authority, the Leos from 12 clubs cleaned up local railway stations, clearing tracks and walkways, leaving a refreshed and safe station.
To prevent future littering, they used their Leo Service grant to purchase 42 permanent trash containers for six local train stations. Thanks to LCIF, the environment around the Mumbai train stations is healthier and more enjoyable to visit.
Continue the legacy of protecting our planet and expand support of the environment by giving to Campaign 100: LCIF Empowering Service. We all have a responsibility to keep our planet clean, safe, and healthy for generations after us.
LCIF is the grant-making body empowering Lions to create greater impact in their communities and around the world. The vast majority of funding LCIF receives is from Lions; 100 percent of every donation supports Lions service through LCIF grants and programs.
Environment is just one cause area supported by LCIF and Campaign 100: LCIF Empowering Service. With financial support from Lions and clubs worldwide, Campaign 100 is empowering Lions to increase service impact in vision, youth, disaster relief, and humanitarian efforts; fight the global epidemic of diabetes; and make important progress in the expanded cause areas of childhood cancer, hunger, and the environment.
