The benefit of Leo-Lion clubs

Chartering a Leo-Lion club opens up a world of opportunities to grow your impact as a Young Lion, Leo-Lion or Leo looking to continue your service, including:

  • Broadening your visibility and reach within your community
  • Expanding your service impact with service activities that meet your interests
  • Providing a welcoming space for Young Lions and a diverse array of people within your community

How to charter a club

When chartering a new Leo-Lion club, there are a few considerations to keep in mind that differ from starting a standard Lions club.

Charter member requirements

New Leo-Lion clubs require a minimum of 20 charter members, 10 of which must be former Leo members who have served for at least one year and one day as a Leo. Once the club is established, there is no requirement to have 10 former Leos at any given time.

Consider additional younger members

Keep in mind other members who may benefit from joining or chartering a Leo-Lion club. Young Adult membership is an exclusive membership type for those ages 30 and younger who join or charter a Leo-Lion club. There is no requirement to be a former Leo to serve as a Young Adult member, and these members can receive a 50% discount on international dues and a charter or entrance fee waiver when they join a Leo-Lion club.

Reporting in Lion Portal

Your former Leo members should be transferred to the Leo-Lion club within the Lion Portal rather than added as new members in order to have their Leo and Lion record merged. Then, once you have your required 20-plus members, you must declare your club type as “Leo-Lion.”

Expectations for your new club

Once you’ve chartered your Leo-Lion club, it’s important to maintain the momentum and the excitement shared by your new members. Be sure to set expectations with your charter members, but keep the following in mind for long-term success.

  • Connect to your Lion community by participating in local, district, multiple district and international events
  • Recruit new Lions through service
  • Ensure meetings are efficient and engaging

Network and grow your new club

Be sure to connect with your community of Lions, Leo-Lions and Leos to ensure your club’s success — and membership growth — once you’ve chartered your Leo-Lion club.

If you’re already a Leo-Lion, make the most of your time and encourage Leos to join your club as new Leo-Lions. If you’re a current Leo, see what your next step could look like — and how Leo-Lion membership could be just what you’re looking for.
