Leadership Development Institutes

As Lions and Leos continue to seek out opportunities to Learn, Lead and Grow, Lions International offers resources that support Lions and Leos in achieving their goals throughout their leadership journey.

Whether the journey is to Learn and enhance leadership skills, to Lead and mentor others by becoming a trainer, or to Grow and develop future leaders, there are Leadership Development institutes and programs targeted specially for each purpose. These institutes teach the skills needed to become a great leader and transition those skills to the next generation.

Learn.

Develop skills to become an effective leader.
The Emerging Lions Leadership Institute (ELLI) prepares Lions and Leos for leadership positions at the club level. Qualified candidates have successfully served on a club committee and have not yet attained the position of Lions club president. Club first vice presidents are strongly encouraged to attend.
The Regional Lions Leadership Institute (RLLI) prepares Lions and Leos for leadership positions throughout the association. Organized and delivered by Lions at the local level, this institute provides a core curriculum with elective sessions so that the training can be tailored to meet the leadership development needs of each area. Qualified candidates are ready to pursue leadership roles at club, zone, district and multiple district levels.
The Leo Advancement Sessions (LAS) are training opportunities for Leos that cover working in teams, time management, member motivation and public speaking. Any or all sessions could be implemented as part of a Leo officer training, conference or forum. At least one session is required during events for which Lions multiple districts, sub-districts and single districts receive the Leo Leadership Grant.

Lead.

Strengthen facilitation skills to train the next generation of leaders.
The Faculty Development Institute (FDI) provides Lions and Leos with foundational knowledge and skills to train at the club, district and multiple district levels. The curriculum focuses on training delivery and techniques to facilitate in-person instruction.
The Lions Certified Instructor Program (LCIP) provides training and certifies Lions who wish to serve as faculty at the international level, including the FVDG/DGE Seminar. Qualified candidates have prior experience (Lions or professional) in training or education. The curriculum is designed to enhance existing knowledge and optimize skills for adult learning.
Which training is right for you?

The FDI and LCIP Comparison Guide provides an overview which is helpful in identifying the best training pathway based on your current level of training experience.

Lions with prior training experience may have opportunities to facilitate local trainings and institutes. Contact your Multiple District and District GLT Coordinators for more information.

Grow.

Explore programs for multiple district and district leaders to identify needs in their area, discover grant opportunities and invest in future leaders.
