LCIF Leo Service Grant Program
With the support of Lions Clubs International Foundation, Leos can make a bigger impact in their communities, while being exposed to valuable leadership and life skills.
Strategy
Grants are available to Lions districts and multiple districts in amounts from US$1,500 to US$5,000 to address unmet humanitarian needs in their community. Leos must be directly involved in organizing and implementing the project. Successful applications will include a robust hands-on service or volunteer component. In addition, collaboration between Lions and Leos is required for the project. Check out the promotional flyer to learn more about the program and see more service project examples.
Examples
- Leos and Lions painted, cleaned and repaired a community center. The grant supported the purchase of paint, paintbrushes, trash bags and small repairs in the building.
- Leos and Lions built a sensory garden in a playground for people with disabilities. Lions assisted the Leos to obtain necessary permits from local authorities. The grant supported the purchase of benches, plants and paving stones.
- Leos hosted a dinner for seniors by preparing and distributing meals. Lions supported Leos with fundraising matching funds and managing logistics. Grant funds were used to purchase food, plates and utensils.
Application and Deadline
Applications for the Leo Service Grant are accepted on a rolling basis. Applications should be submitted to LCIF at minimum 90 days prior to the project commencement. Please submit applications to [email protected].
Leo Leadership Grant Program
The Leo Leadership Grant Program provides financial assistance to a Lions multiple district, sub-district or single district interested in organizing a Leo leadership conference. Through this grant program, Leos can expand their leadership skills in the areas of project management, communication, creativity and innovation, teamwork, time management and planning community service projects.
Strategy
Each year, Lions International awards US$2,000 grants to 24 Lions multiple districts, sub-districts or single districts that are investing in training their Leos. The Leo Club Program Department reviews applications in the order in which they are received and approves eligible grants based on the content of the application.
Those interested in applying for a Leo leadership grant to host a Leo leadership conference must use at least one session provided in the Leo Advancement Sessions. These session options include Working in Teams, Public Speaking, Member Motivation and Time Management.
Examples
- Leos hosted a leadership event that focused on teamwork and networking that included using the Working in Teams Leo Advancement Session.
- Omega Leos hosted an annual conference where they focused on refining the district’s Alpha Leos’ leadership skills. Included in the conference was the Time Management Leo Advancement Session.
- Leos hosted an in-person training for members to connect, which included using the Member Motivation Leo Advancement Session.
Application and Deadline
To apply, complete the Leo Leadership Grant Application and email your completed application to the Leo Club Program Department at [email protected]. Applications are accepted between July 1 and May 1, or until funds are no longer available.
Leo Institute Grant
The Leo Institute Grant provides additional funds to help offset expenses when organizing a local Regional Lions Leadership Institute (RLLI) or Emerging Lions Leadership Institute (ELLI) that includes Leos as participants. The Leo Institute Grant is available to support multiple districts, single districts and undistricted areas to help reduce financial barriers for Leos and encourage their participation. Institute organizers are strongly encouraged to offer additional financial assistance or discounts to Leos before the institute to increase accessibility.
Application and Deadline
To receive this grant, organizers must first apply for and be approved for the Leadership Development Institute Grant, as there is no separate application. When completing the Leadership Development Institute Grant application (available annually from May to October 15), organizers must indicate if Leos will be invited to the institute.
Leo Institute Grant funds are not guaranteed for all Leadership Development Institute Grant recipients and will be provided as reimbursement, subject to availability. Reimbursement requests for eligible Leo expenses will be processed as they are received. Before applying, organizers should review the eligibility criteria to ensure Leos are properly reported and qualify for funding.
