Home Resource Center Regional Lions Leadership Institute (RLLI)

Lions who wish to pursue leadership roles within their Lions community will benefit from the RLLI, where they will learn about club operations, opportunities and resources available to clubs, and gain both valuable leadership skills and a deeper understanding of how to better serve clubs.

The RLLI is offered at the local level and organized by regional leaders.

 

Attend an RLLI

 

Eligible Lions for RLLI:

  • Are in good standing and want to better support multiple district or district initiatives.
  • Have not attended an RLLI within the last five (5) years.

Plan an RLLI

 

To organize an RLLI in your area: 

*Applications must be submitted 3-4 months prior to the institute start date.  Upon approval of the application, Lions Clubs International will provide the curriculum and additional support resources.

Which application are you eligible for?

 
Leadership Development Institutes

Apply for a grant to offset the costs of an RLLI.

  • Multiple districts are eligible to receive up to US$4500. 
  • Single districts are eligible to receive up to US$1800.
  • Undistricted provisional zones, regions and districts are eligible to receive up to US$750.

Looking for a virtual institute?

 

The RLLI can also be offered as a virtual training. There are additional requirements to conduct a virtual RLLI and the following documents should be reviewed before submitting your Local Institute Program or Institute Grant Program Application.

The RLLI Experience

 

The RLLI is designed so that area leaders have the flexibility to customize the curriculum to best meet the needs of their clubs. However, the recommended format is 3 days of interactive training during which participants will learn valuable leadership skills and strategies for overcoming obstacles and creating opportunities.

The recommended schedule and sessions are outlined below.

Day 1

Morning

  • Opening Session: Meet your faculty and participants.
  • Lions Fundamentals: Understand the association’s history, principles and structure, while exploring the benefits of membership.

Afternoon

  • Working In Teams: Review the characteristics of teams and how to develop effective teams.
  • Diversity: Recognize the value of diversity and the benefits it can provide for clubs.
  • Local Issues & Opportunities: Discuss topic-specific needs or interests of the participants.
Day 2

Morning

  • Public Speaking: Develop a framework for preparing speeches and guidelines for effective delivery.
  • Time Management: Review the importance of time management, identify obstacles and provide strategies for overcoming those obstacles.
  • Personal Mission Statement: Develop a personal mission statement.

Afternoon

  • Member Motivation: Examine personal needs and motivation.
  • Goal Setting: Understand the value of establishing goals and develop a plan to achieve goals.

Evening

  • Speech Preparation: Using the topic outline created in the Public Speaking session, participants finalize their speech to present on Day 3.
Day 3

Morning

  • Public Speaking Presentations: Participants deliver their prepared speeches and receive feedback from the faculty.
  • Local Issues & Opportunities: Discuss topic-specific needs or interests of the participants.

Afternoon

  • Closing: Feedback and evaluation.
