Inicio Cáncer infantil Alianza de LCIF y Global Hope en África

Our partnership has grown

Since May 2019, LCIF has partnered with Global HOPE, a program of Texas Children’s Hospital and Baylor College of Medicine, to improve pediatric cancer care in sub-Saharan Africa. Through our partnership, Global HOPE has treated nearly 23,000 children and trained over 6,700 healthcare workers. Further, the partnership has created three state-of-the-art clean pharmacies to support the safety of medicines and ensure proper treatment of children.

Our reach spans over 20 countries across Africa, including Botswana, Malawi and Uganda. While survival rates in low-income regions are still only 10%, compared to 80% in developed countries, significant progress is being made to improve access to treatment, train providers and increase childhood cancer survival. Local Lions have been involved at the country level supporting community-based initiatives for the hospital, creating grassroots awareness of services and hosting celebration events for children who have become cancer-free. Where there is a need, there is a Lion.

Significant progress over last five years

In partnership with Global HOPE, LCIF and Lions have advanced the fight against childhood cancer, providing access to life-saving treatment and strengthening healthcare systems for lasting impact.

Expanding access to childhood cancer treatment

Our efforts have now reached over 25 countries in Africa, focusing on Botswana, Kenya, Malawi, Rwanda, South Africa, Tanzania and Uganda. While progress is being made in the fight against childhood cancer, much work remains. To improve survival rates, we must:

  • Expand access to life-saving drugs and treatments
  • Train more healthcare providers
  • Enhance medical facilities and technology

Together, we can make a lasting difference in the lives of children battling cancer, both in Africa and across the world.
